The arts and their imagination are needed to shape the future in a sustainable way! Because: they create the framework in which sustainable action emerges. With the series Art & Sustainability, the Mannheim Cultural Office invites you to discuss artistic and aesthetic strategies for sustainable development.

"Making climate change tangible confronts art with one of its most exciting challenges," emphasizes Nicola Bramkamp, who founded the SAVE THE WORLD initiative in 2014. In her keynote lecture "Saving the World with Art," the expert on sustainable production and curating asks: How can art actively contribute to overcoming the climate crisis? Where does its special quality and power of change lie? What narratives, cultural narratives, and images can the arts generate to drive social transformation?

As cultural practitioners, we can generate emotions in audiences: anger, sadness, compassion, boredom, humor - the range of reactions is long. Why don't we use our qualifications to inspire our audiences to rethink and act? How can we narrate the dramatic changes coming our way in such a way that they don't frighten and paralyze us from the outset? And don't we have to go one step further? In addition to the aesthetic and content, the attitude and the entire process behind it also belong in the package - and under social, economic and ecological aspects.

So there is a lot to do: let's talk about new narratives, the freedom of art, operational ecological challenges and exciting artistic perspectives.
