Works by György Ligeti, Babette Koblenz, Zsigmond Szathmáry and Uroš Rojko
The centerpiece of the program is György Ligeti's seven-part cycle Síppal, dobbal, nádihegedüvel (with pipes, drums and reed violins) for mezzo-soprano and four percussionists based on poems by the Hungarian poet Sándor Weöres. On the occasion of the composer's 100th birthday, it will be complemented under the motto Ligeti 100 by two works by his former students Babette Koblenz and Uroš Rojko, as well as a work by the Hungarian composer and organist Zsigmond Szathmáry, who was closely associated with him. The three pieces by Rojko, Koblenz and Szathmáry were written as part of the Schlag>|<Art project commissioned by the Bremen Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Olaf Tzschoppe.
